Important Announcement Concerning the
2011 YMCA Short Course National Swimming Championships

We have just been informed by the Ft. Lauderdale Aquatic Complex that city engineers have recommended the closure of the entire grandstand seating area, resulting in the loss of a total of 1,500 seats.  We want to alert our YMCA community to what we will be doing to try to work within the remaining parts of the complex for seating, as it is too late to find another site for our 2011 National Championships.

To this end, we have put together a committee comprised of representatives of the Pool, the City of Fort Lauderdale, leadership of the YMCA of the USA, our Coaches Association, the National Advisory Committee, the Officials Committee and the Meet Committee to develop plans to work around this difficult situation.  In addition, we are discussing this situation with senior meet administrators from USA Swimming to get their input and suggestions.  We intend to have a comprehensive plan developed and announced by the first week of February.  We will keep you apprised of our progress to this end.

Obviously, with time being short and the situation being what it is, every group coming to the meet will need to be prepared to make sacrifices in order to deal with the situation.  In this regard, we will be working diligently over the next two months in the best interests of our swimmers, coaches, parents and meet workers to make the 2011 National Championship meet the very best it can be for everyone.

We appreciate the forbearance, support and cooperation we know you will all give us as we work to deal with the unfortunate turn of events.

Jim Weaton, National Director of Events, YUSA/MSPS
Bob McDowell, Chair, National YMCA Competitive Advisory Committee
John Mendell, Meet Director, National YMCA Short Course Swimming Championships
